В семье Вершининых происходит трагедия — в день своего рождения погибает глава семейства, Михаил Николаевич, владелец строительной фирмы. Рассчитавшись с долгами Михаила, жена Вершинина Светлана и три дочери остаются без средств к существованию. Они переезжают из Москвы к деду в провинциальный город Лепинск. Эта поездка оказывается судьбоносной. Всем им предстоит пересмотреть свои взгляды на жизнь, отношения с окружающими, узнать правду о смерти главы семьи и о том, кто же есть истинный виновник этой трагедии.
