“I’ve been enjoying a rediscovery of the merits of repetition recently, so I wanted to make something a little more grounded in loops and continuity than a lot of my other mixes of recent years – something where the value of the music can’t be found by dipping in, only by letting it wash over with time. The name of the mix is a play on the link between the function of waves as the source of musical experience as well as the apparent nature of reality at the smallest scales. The mix starts with a binaural recording from the 4D Sound system where I played different sine tones from different parts of the room. The throbbing you can hear did not come from the speakers, but from how the waves interacted inside the space – a demonstration of how waves can create. The mix needs a special mention to a couple of producers who feature twice, firstly Donato Dozzy, whose Vaporware release is so good I had to use two tracks from it, and David August, whose work I love, and who has recently remixed a track from my next EP coming later this year. There’s also a couple of new unheard tracks on there from me, including one that a lot of people have been asking about after it featured in some recent shows – a remix of a beautiful post-classical track by Frederic D. Oberland and Richard Knox.”
The new album project is full of scores to infinite visualisations, so it needed some spacey synth noodlings to match. Its the first time Ive made a live improvised piece of music, it gives it a different feel, less precise arrangement, constant patch morphing and more flow. Something to get lost in hopefully. Myself on synths, Six Sigma on bassline, and Adam Betts on drums. I added some detailing later and the big retro snare etc, but the core synth and basslines that run throughout came from that initial jam session.
The track is called Parting Ways, and is set to a video sequence by the awesome Maxime Causeret, telling the story of creation via endless division. Youll see the references to old video projects in there too, it was one part of the new story which overlapped with some old ones.

Ive tried to start from a very simple element a box and make it split again and again in order to create more complex structures. It ends up to the universe splitting into multiverses that loops back to this box splitting and splitting again, in an infinite loop. As a funny fact, I often get crazy scales while zooming out, with a few unexpected bugs like min and max slope values in Houdini animation editor. I hope you will enjoy this animation. This is a selection / extrapolation of the guitar parts from The Hot Rats Sessions box. I assembled this compilation to listen non-stop to the guitar Frank played during those sessions. I worked a lot cutting and sewing, removing parts of other musical instruments, trying to combine the various fragments and the various takes in a fluid way.
This is from my own private collection. I assembled it for my personal listening and I share it for CULTURAL and EDUCATIONAL purposes to promote the artist (Frank Zappa).
I do not own the rights to this material, I use it only for promotional-cultural use. I believe this compilation is a great commercial for the box set. I am not financially (or otherwise) involved in selling The Hot Rats Sessions, but I hope this selection is an incentive for the undecided to buy the whole box, which is a casket of jewels (6 disc box set!). If, however, those who own the rights to these songs deem it inappropriate the presence of this video on You Tube, they can block it.

Héctor Oaks, DJ et producteur à la tête de son propre label OAKS, a passé la moitié de sa vie derrière les platines. Il commence dabord sur la scène underground madrilène pour ensuite senvoler pour Berlin où sa carrière décollera pour de bon.
